For some reason I, like it appears so many others, am ruining the awesome fun all you guys usually have around here.

If any one of you, any one of you at all wants me to leave and not come back I'm cool with that. All you have to do is post a picture of some ruby slippers and say 'There's no place like home" three times and I will leave without question or comment.

I'm honestly not trying to mess things up for anyone. I just don't think this forum jives with me.

You honestly seem to have a good combination of not taking things too seriously and intelligence, so I could see this going either way.

Cain's criticisms of your position and expression of that position in that thread, while probably hard to read, are pretty much spot on.

The jist of what I have been saying is still this:

Putin is an aggressive expansionalist and Russian invasion of Crimea violates a treaty signed by the US.

This was a massive oversimplification of your position or a tacit retraction of a lot of the parts that were criticised. It seemed dishonest.

Other parts of your position that escaped mention in your summary but may have elicted scorn include:

"And if we don't back up our treaties, the entire show is going to begin falling like the largest Jenga game ever played. "

A fairly condescending "You seem to forget that Vladmir Putin is a Dictator who..."

An accusatory "I'm having a hard time seeing how anyone but the most severe Kremlin apologist could defend him right now."

And then a jump to "NOBODY IS LISTENING TO WHAT I MEAN, ONLY WHAT I SAY" with "Too bad we can't agree on any point but it's hard when you can't see any part of my post where I might have credence or sense" and "Getting picked apart sucks."

Good luck recovering from having been tentatively classified as "OH GOD ANOTHER OF THESE". Try not to let it get you down if our collective hivemind reaction to tropes we've seen in sequence before triggers anticipation of the meltdown that typically follows those tropes. This pattern recognition has served us well before. Often those who criticise the community's collective reaction to them are those who cannot see that while the group takes cues from one another about who is worth engaging with, you are still an individual interacting with individuals who may find it distasteful to be dealt with only as a representative of the group.

My current position is that noobs are someone else's problem.  Specifically, people who can be arsed to explain the same old shit for the n^th time, to someone who is either here to teach us a thing or two (because they were offended on facebook, tumblr, etc), or is simply too fucking dense to interact with others.  And then catch all manner of shit about it from regulars who have done a little noob-huffing in their time, if you know what I mean.  And I think you do.

Who were you reflecting here?

Because of "True Detective", I finally started reading "The King in Yellow". It's got that old-horror-obviousness-and-kinda-boring-but-some-cool-narrative-ideas thing going on.

As with Lovecraft, Poe and other pioneers of the early 'romantic' and later macabre movement what you have to understand is that their intent was different than the modern horror author's intent. They were also some of the early practitioners of the short story as a medium.

In some ways, modern viewers fail to appreciate the artistry involved as even the project of writing itself was such a rare and difficult task at that time what with no electricity, things were still done by oil lighting or maybe, MAYBE by gas light.

So please, have some consideration for the Genre ^_^
