BADGE OF HONOR

1.  Pollution started with fire.  Many people all over the world did and do start massive wildfires in order to exploit their environment.

2.  Animistic does not mean in tune with nature.  Hell, humans contributed to the extinction of megafauna at the end of the last ice age.  Humans started doing agriculture because they ate their way into that hole and the "natural" (haw haw) environment couldn't handle the population pressure.

Okay, the thing about atheist rolemodels was to something said by Vexaph0d.  But it also goes with the whole, why are you listening to that asshat when there are SO many more intelligent people poking holes in the beliefs of others, thing.

Because I felt like it.  Slack works in mysterious ways, bobbie.

Pollution is NOT a function of the amount of people, rather it is a function of the use of technology that pollutes that was invented by scientists and sold to people by their capitalist masters to make their lives "better"

So you are suggesting that the logging and exhaust of wood-fueled fires for 6.5 billion people would not be harmful to the environment.

Idiot.

BADGE OF HONOR

Also, hunter/gatherer work, while perhaps less time consuming, was still very intense.  It's a hard lifestyle fraught with physical danger and psychological stress.  Nobody was wandering around picking fruit off trees; they were either on their knees doing something repetetive and difficult or walking around with all their possessions on their backs.  If you were lucky enough to survive past 40, you suffered from arthritis and the agony of exposed nerves as your teeth wore away to nothing.  Not to mention the pain of having half your children die, and wondering if maybe this year everyone is going to starve to death, or maybe somebody will find some grass seeds the mice haven't gotten to yet.

Greed, while technically bad, actually promotes survival.  When you're continually on the edge, taking what's yours may mean the difference between life and death.  You might even direct some of your hatred of human nature toward, well, nature, since or extistence in said environment for millions of years has definitely set up some interesting instinctual mentalities.

I thought he said he wasn't pagan?

Not that it matters, he's still just as misguided.

I'm going to go take a nice hot shower, something provided to me by the evils of technology and the greeds of modern civilization.

BADGE OF HONOR

I'd just like to take a moment to express my disapproval of previous responses in this thread.  I prefer the cold hard smackdown of logic instead of steaming piles of personal attacks.

Could just be me though.

There were many tribes that used various forms of agriculture, but it's only when they pursued a policy of eradicating the competition that it took off.  Homo Sapiens have been around in modern form for the last two hundred thousand years, and in other forms for two to three million before that, yet why is it that only in the last three hundred years that we've done more damage than the Planet could fix?  Because of the greed and powerlust of Corporate Masters.

Animism is ascribing a Sacredness or Deity to everything, but it results in a certain respect for that which gives life.  Reference Indians thanking the spirit of the deer that allowed itself to be killed for the good of the tribe VS not giving a shit about the spirit of the Big Mac cause it makes you fat and lazy.

I can guarantee that even if there were 6.5 billion people living on the planet in tribes they would not pollute as much as we are right now, due to lack of automobiles, power plants, chemical dumping, and a billion other sources that they wouldn't use.  In addition, on an alternate course of history where we all lived in tribes, population growth would never have reached today's levels, due to it's unsustainability.  See the small percentages of those organisms at the top of their food chain, like Lions, Tigers, Sharks, Eagles, and so on.

Are you guys really saying that the current system, the Machinetm is the way things should be?

I'd rather live a short life that had fulfillment in it than work like a slave to the Corporate Masters for a reward that doesn't mean squat.

1.  No, we're saying your bullshit ideal of the way things were never happened.

2.  The reward of constant borderline starvation?  Of dying of an abcessed tooth?
