It didn't work in Safe Mode?

Are you sure the instructions you followed are recent? (Check the dates on the article)

It worked in safe mode, I just haven't been able to remove the shit that's fucking it up.

Dude, relax. Don't hit yourself on the head about it.

Spyware/malware is fucking persistent poopy crap. I refuse to fix friends or family's computers if I can possibly avoid it because of that. Usually they turn the computer into something utterly slow, unusable and unstable. And then, if you manage to remove it, the computer still acts up, even if the spyware is gone. Sometimes it's just best to wipe the whole thing and install the OS anew.

Really, prevention is the best cure. Better to learn what to click and not to click, when the dialog box means it will install shit on your computer and never ever surf with Internet Explorer.

No really, spyware is a bitch and if I have to battle with it, I don't always win either.

Ok that doesn't help you, but should make you feel a bit better :)

And, since you said that the machine still boots to safe mode, it probably still works. So it's not a brick. Promise a geeky nerd friend a sixpack of good beers and ask them if they can come over an evening and look at it.

e-prime disclaimer: let it seem fairly unclear I understand the apparent subjectivity of the above statements. maybe.

INFORMATION SO POWERFUL, YOU ACTUALLY NEED LESS.

Thanks. I'm trying to relax. My guitarist is very handy with this kind of stuff, and he's gonna stop by after work to help me out. Hopefully he can take care of it, but considering what he does for work, I think he'll be able to do it. Thanks for dealing with my crap.

I had to reinstall a few weeks ago because of a bad Vundo infestation.
Sometimes its possible to rip the shit off your computer, but sometimes... you just have to bite teh bullet and reinstall.
Which is why people will tell you to back up your important data, always.

(also, I think that Teenage Bad Girl is bad-ass)

Ok, safe mode isn't.
Go to http://www.ubcd4win.com/ and download it. Use a non-infected computer to be safe. You need a windows CD, then follow the instructions.
Reboot from your new "Ultimate Boot CD For Windows".
Enable networking (don't try to use wireless, plug in).
Run the various anti-virus/anti-malware scanners on the disk.

If you don't have a windows CD available, I recommend Knoppix Security Tools Distro or the avira anti-vir rescue CD.
