Two big changes I am considering...

they both sound like cool changes, but they will significantly change the way people play the game, so I want to do it carefully.

I am still researching how these things work, and am a bit sketchy on the details, but here's the gist:

the first is the Dwellings pack. Each city will get a way for you to spend turns harvesting instead of fighting. You can get wood, iron, granite, stuff like that. THEN, once you have enough materials, you can build your own house / lodge / castle in any city you'd like. I believe it's like having a free inn. Houses can be raided and plundered too.

another possible add-on creates Jobs. Players can work at a job (mill, quarry, etc), or become the manager and be in charge of hiring/firing. Working at a job consumes turns, but rewards you with materials and/or money.

the second is the Taxation, City Hall, and Elections modules. Works like this:

Quotetaxation.php - adds taxation of gold assets in the bank on newday, adds a forest special where you can encounter the Tax Offices.

election.php - adds functionality for elections to be held in the City Hall (see townfinance.php), registration of candidates, voting by all players and finally the finishing of an election through a link in the Grotto.

townfinance.php - adds functionality for the elected leader to change tax rates, make proclamations, give alms, claim expenses, resign his office (triggering candidate registration in election.php) and talk to citizens in the Audience Chamber. Citizens can protest or support the leadership in the City Hall, as well as ask about their tax status and the tax code. They may also petition the Leader.  Also provides for a central treasury which the money from taxation pays into, which is subtracted from the treasury when administrative functions are used.

what do you think?

I'll have to join this shit tomorrow when I'm "working" from home tomorrow.

Cram, as someone who's playing as a way to fuck off at work, I'd prefer not to be forced to do anything too complicated.

If some of us can still go and kill things while others begin to form their own version of Deadwood, that would be cool.

Cramulus

That's a good point & I can see what you mean. Participation in these add-ons are optional... Until taxes start being levied. My concern is that adding political or job-grind elements may compromise the vibe we've been aiming for.

Freeky

Pretty muchwhat LMNO said.

Also, the Inn is fairly safe (unless people are desperate and have the gold and gems to spare), at least to my way of thinking. However, when you said that houses could be burgled, I know that I felt my inner Rogue go "Ohai, Imma comin fer yer stuff!"

But that's just me.

ETA: Also, Taxes? :crankey: MAH GOLD.

What would happen if we added it on, and no one participated?  Is there an "negligence/anarchy" setting?

Cramulus

I think wild fist-pumping anarchy is the default setting :lulz:

Time to start a Mead Party.

Fuck yeah. I'm not rich, I'm middle class. And I worked hard for what I have!

TIME TO GO KILL ME SOME NOOBS TO PROTEST THESE TAXES.

LMNO

Ok, so where's this damn inn, anyway?
