Incidentally, if it turns out this was a politically motivated hit, it will be the second tragic assassination this week.  Pakistan's situation is more dire, but there are certain parallels, if the assassin was doing this for the reasons we all suspect.

Name of the shooter may be Jared Laughner.

The judge who died was John Roll.  He and his family received death threats in 2009 for allowing a lawsuit by illegal immigrants, fueled by talk-radio hosts.

FOX News is claiming this is Mexico Cartel related violence, which sounds like bullshit.

A second suspect is reported to have been arrested, a third is being sought, according to journalist Twitter feeds.

Last I heard was that 6 people are dead including the US judge and a 9 year old. Twitter is going hard and heavy on this, naturally. Cain's covered the interesting links.

It's been really interesting to see how people have reacted to this so far. Lots of people lashing out at Palin and the Tea Baggers. Lots of gun control talk around. No one has blamed it on religion yet, but I'm sure that will be around the corner. Events like this make for interesting political Rorschach tests.

The thing is hes given enough material for both left and right wing pundits to jump on and claim "He read Rand/Marx hes a conservative/liberal nutjob!"
When in reality he appears to have just been a plain old nut job.
