Neckbeards have parties. It's just that only neckbeards attend such parties, and they typically don't.

Not even neckbeards like to be geeked out on about the wonderous merits of windows.

That's probably why they don't go to each others' parties.

I mean, a wild neckbeard party is what?  3 different bean dips and a 6 hour conversation about configuring Linux?

I literally have no clue what his point was.

I have yet to hear a convincing argument against continuing to run an OS I am familliar with. Windows does everything I need it to do (browse internet, word processing, plug and play hardware, some games), can run just about software that I download, and I don't have to learn anything new to continue to use it. As far as I know, there are no OSses which are better at doing those things in the capacity which I use them.

True, there are some annoying things about windows, but nothing as annoying as using a command prompt to do everything.

also, windows comes with MS Paint.

I won't convince you either way (see my ReligiOS experience stated earlier). However, the concept that you need to do anything in linux via command line (shell) is no longer true. My Dad built his own Linux box with no problems. There is enough of a push for Linux desktops at this point, that many distributions are heavily augmented with gui based tools. the Drake toolset from Mandriva allows you to manage hardware, firewalls, software etc etc etc. Ubuntu has gui tools for all administration as does some of the more consumer based versions like Linux Mint.

Use whatever you like, but don't fear the shell.

I was going to say doesn't Ubuntu have a very Window's like interface?

To me, that's a pretty big selling point.  Now, if they can sort out gaming issues and MS Paint...

MS Paint and many games run under Wine. If you're lazy and have money to blow, the commercial version of Mandriva ships with the Crossover Wine stuff from Codeweavers which lets you run most windows apps/games with no issues.

I have come across a minimum of six MS Paint clones for *nix. Several of them are in TCL and will run on anything with a TCL/Tk environment.

Well, we had a nice long period without any real morons, then we had Morn and KopyKat.

It balances out, I guess.
