I call False Dichotomy... just because Bored Middle Class White People may want something to rebel against; it doesn't preclude Bored Lower Class, Bored Upper Class, Interested Middle Class or White/Brown/Green/Purple people from also wanting something to rebel against.

There's actually a reason I think it's important to recognize privilege and boredom. That reason is that if you fail to recognize it, it becomes all to easy to assume that our situation is the default situation. That tends to lead to a certain type of judgment that is usually cast against people who do not share our position of luxury.

Bored white people, recognize. Appreciate.

I took several times to rad this post, to make sure I wasn't accidentally misunderstanding.

So, I agree. It is important to recognize privilege and boredom. But who says that posters here don't already understand it? I live in terror of the day my luck finally runs out and my friends finally turn on me (this is more from an abandonment complex than an actual valid fear, but still). And it is a huge shame that I belong to the same species that commits heinous atrocities every day JUST BECAUSE.

But I have no idea how to help. So what do you suggest I do, rather than guilt trip myself?

An Ohio woman who was jailed for tampering with records to get her children into a better school district has been released from jail a day early, according to a local newspaper.

Kelley Williams-Bolar left the Summit County Jail on Wednesday, having served nine days of her 10-day sentence, the Akron Beacon Journal reported.

Williams-Bolar, a single mother living in subsidized housing in Akron, used her father's address to register her two daughters in the high-achieving suburban Copley-Fairlawn school district.

Copley-Fairlawn said the improper registration cost it $30,000 in lost tuition and $6,000 in investigative costs.

The case has drawn national media attention and outrage, much of it due to its racial undertones: Williams-Bolar is black, while the Copley-Fairlawn schools are predominantly white.

A Google search for Williams-Bolar's name turns up 131,000 results.

Williams-Bolar told CNN affiliate WEWS-TV in Cleveland that she plans to appeal her conviction. The local chapter of the Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network is trying to raise money to fund the appeal, the Beacon Journal reported.
