Because he falsified/lied on documents with the securities & exchange commission.

There's potentially a huge raft of felonies involved.  He'll never be charged, but he's now got some REALLY big damage control to manage, to make sure he never gets charged.

He's basically going to spend the rest of the campaign on the defensive, against an incumbent president.
