Around here (suburbs of NYC, which is in phase IV right now, basically everything except bars / movie theaters / etc are open but with reduced capacity and mask/distancing requirements), a lot of us have resumed some elements of normal life.

My close in-town friends have been sequestered since it started. Basically any time we've reached out to them, they've said "NO. We're locked down until this thing is over."

like, okay, that's fair---but you do know this isn't "ending" right? Not any time soon, at least. We can't suspend life indefinitely, we have to figure out how to keep living WITHIN these conditions. Don't know about you guys, but I can't handle "just don't see any people for a full year". You can't crank the safety dial to 100% forever or you'll go crazy. So we've been doing porch hangouts, backyard dinners, hikes with friends. No parties or indoor socializing, but we kinda need SOME face-to-face social experience every other week or so.

My in-town friends finally broke, invited us to walk in the park with them. Suggested that back-porch D&D might be a Thing again soon.

It was a huge relief, because we'd kinda written those guys off.

how have you folks been dealing with the lockdown conditions in your region?  how has your life changed as of July & what concessions have you made?

My wife and I live in a little cabin in the mountains. We don't really know our neighbors.  Most of our friends live a fair distance away.  The biggest change has been that we don't visit my family, who live in a small town that is a tourist community.  Or any of our friends there.  That's been hard, but we're going to refrain at least until things settle down a bit more.   Once people accept masks as normal, restrictions as normal, etc.  Until then it's too dangerous.

What they NEED to do is Star Trek: Howl.

I wanna sign up.

My skills include fixing shit and hating engineers. And i do more or less anything for some good science.

And none of this "it's gonna take twelve hours to fix - i give you six - fine, i will do it in four" nonsense.
it will take twelve. maybe a little less if you shoot the engineer so i can work in peace.

I leave the shooting of engineers to the officers; don't have time in my schedule to deal with that anyways.
If you want the engineer welded into a specific confined place to closely observe progress from the inside, just give me the proper specs and sign the papers that let me work in the EX area.

You're hired.  Report to Waste Reclamation.  Here's your scrub brush and kneepads.  You report to Ensign Miner.  She's a Horta, so try not to annoy her.

While I was down there I took the liberty of cleaning out that weird Fatberg. I think it was semi-sentient already: the thing did grumble a bit, there may have been some sort of a scream? No idea; but i got the job done.

So that's all cleared up now and should fuel the food replicators for at least a week

No Ensign Miner to be found anywhere though. Must have missed her.
