Turd's rant probably took some effort to write. What would happen if everyone took all of the effort they put into ranting about how much this board and the people on it suck, and put that into writing techniques or pointers in OM? It's a very small step, but things like that snowball. The pessimism and "this place used to be great"-ism here just kills me sometimes. I'd love to see less bitching about the games in apple talk, and more fresh ideas, new energy.

You can't tell me that you don't encourage your friends and those around you to be more chaotic and creative. I'm almost positive you don't give them lectures on playing poker instead of focusing on chaining all the shopping carts at a supermarket together. You probably understand that there's a time and a place for both. Why should that change the second you get onto a message board?

RAH!

I swear one day I will collect all the best bits of writing from this forum and it shall be a new Disordian Holy book with which to wipe our arses or put our coffee mugs on in times of need.

Horab Fibslager

there's an essential difference between nazi's and peta, somewhere in the quagmire of supposed actions and whatnot, and to your them. they want to conquer the world sure but they're aren't in the same class as teh nazi's. people can do alot of very, very bad things, and often do, but the nazi's were one of thje few thign sin history that was truly evil.
Hell is other people.

What, exactly, have they accomplished?

They are the monsters of the left...they give lie to the idea that either wing of the American POV has any concern for the people of the nation in which they dwell.

They are Nazis, and I spit on them.

Behind the scenes, they have slowly helped set industry standards for animal testing. They have sued for restaurant farming standards. They keep a close watch on the large-style factory farming outlets and document any violations they see. And then they sue the pants off of those comapnies.

McDonalds, KFC, Wendy's, most cosmetics companies, tons of medical testing facilities... these places have all implemented their standards due to lawsuits or the threat of lawsuits.

They have more lawyers than you can imagine. And they use them, daily. They ARE effective, but most of the press they get is for their fundraising stunts. Like I said, they've accomplished this with the help of smaller, more effective organizations, but they've done a good deal of work.

But this isn't about PETA and how evil they are. It's about discordians.

1.  The ends do not justify the means.  (If this is no longer true, please let me know...I have a few ideas of my own, after all.)

2.  Discordian PETA?  This has potential.

Nonsense.  There have been plenty of examples of true evil, historically.

Just ask the Cherokee.

Or a Southern Black, circa 1950.

And so on.

PETA places its "principles" above the lives of humans.  This places them in the same catagory as the Nazis, except in scale.

They understand how the press and this society works. For every stupid naked supermodel stunt they pull, they have about 5 lawsuits they're actively tending to. They do their real work quietly, and you don't hear about it. People don't know it exists, and they can be left to do what they need to do in relative privacy.

I don't think that the real work they do is evil. Health and safety standards for the food we eat and the people who process it is not bad. If major food corporations had their way we'd have no standards. We no longer have farms. We have factories. The things they do in these factories in the name of producation scares me, and it should scare you if you eat meat.

Like I said, I don't excuse their stupid stunts. I don't agree with them. But they're not nazis. They haven't killed anybody. And they benefit you whether you're for animal right or not, but protecting your food source.

For every village in India killed in gas leaks, Dow Chemical employs ~ 30,000 people.

This should cheer up the people of Bhopal.

Did you here about the guys who made up a fake story about compensation for that to cause a drop in share prices? A truly great jake! They made up a classy website, backdated some material to make it look older and reported it.  Even the BBC fell for it.

forgive me for oversimplifying, but it seems to me that what Hoshi is saying is that because of PETA, the price of a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger at Wendy's has gone up 20 cents...

you may now officially consider me an enemy of the PETA.

8)

and BTW, to which ever one of you accused me of wasting all my time telling everyone how much they suck: I don't believe I've ever actually said that (at least not soberly or seriously), and the whole reason I get worked up and start spouting the shit that no one wants to hear is because I see so many people here that actually don't suck (which is a real rarity), and I hate to see all the wasted potential (myself not only included, but singled out for especially harsh castigation in this regard)...and yes, my definition of wasting potential is doing anything that doesn't lead to the utter downfall of western civilization...
