What!?  Thread jacks on PD.com?

That UNPOSSIBLE!

I'd be a hypocrite to criticize for the threadjacking thing.  I just don't see why we stand for this shit from trolls.

I guess it's making me lose enthusiasm for the whole ranting/discussing formula.

I always figured that's the whole idea of trolls but for every troll threadjack there's loads of really sweet threads where everybody is just riffing off each other. Even if it aint deep and meaningful I usly find it entertaining.

Yeah, but when a thread is posted with sincere intentions, it's infuriating.

And I posted a sincere and honest answer.

Wisdom is bullshit, another fake quality invented so people can pass off information in such a way that the integrity of the source and not the content, is what is questioned.

People can occasionally act in wise ways.  But there is no such thing as a wise person.  Stop using Platonism, it only leads you into linguistic traps and falsehoods.

Jasper

There's no such thing as a ____ person.  People are just people, I think we can agree.

Thanks for the sincerity, btw.

Wisdom is bullshit as a charachter trait, I'll agree for the sake of argument.  But there is such a thing as wise behavior, so I am discussing that.

Is there wiser possible behavior than OP suggests?

Hey guys, thanks for discussing the OP and maturely ignoring any obvious trolls.

Fock 'eads.

actually i think the thread turned out quite nicely, considering what it started with. it was a nice OP but -- quickly restrains himself from actually doing it just to try out what happens -- it kinda reminds me of:

discuss.

if you get my point.

maybe not. maybe i'm wrong and the original post was more thoughtful than that. i can see both ways.

either way i kinda enjoy the kicking trolls thing as well. if you wanted to keep it on-topic, it's easy, just ignore the trolling bits and actively steer the thread back to what you wanted it to be. don't say "guys be more like this and that", simply take the responses you thought were on topic and reply to those. (and if that fails, simply accept there is not much interest --at the moment!-- for the subject)

also, reposting the OP sometimes helps.

good luck.

INFORMATION SO POWERFUL, YOU ACTUALLY NEED LESS.

Noted, 000.  I'm trying.

Wouldn't someone who makes "acting in wise ways" a habit be more wise than one who does it rarely?

Lies

- So the New World Order does not actually exist?
- Oh it exists, and how!
Ask the slaves whose labour built the White House;
Ask the slaves of today tied down to sweatshops and brothels to escape hunger;
Ask most women, second class citizens, in a pervasive rape culture;
Ask the non-human creatures who inhabit the planet:
whales, bears, frogs, tuna, bees, slaughtered farm animals;
Ask the natives of the Americas and Australia on whose land
you live today, on whose graves your factories, farms and neighbourhoods stand;
ask any of them this, ask them if the New World Order is true;
they'll tell you plainly: the New World Order... is you!

Not necessarily.  What we call "acting wisely" is a bunch of arbitrary values based highly on context and subject to change.  If instead we were to define the virtue or trait linked to that situation, we would likely have a much more explicit and accurate description of what we are approving of.

Buncha crap.

Wisdom is knowing when to punch a fucker, and when to wait for a better time.

That is all.

OP pretty much includes that.

"patience and the exercise of restraint"

"properly prioritizes--knows whats worth doing and whats not, and likewise what cannot or should not be done and what can and should (like realizing people can only change themselves)"
