And you're going to keep getting trolled until you realize why you are getting trolled, and change your behaviour towards trolling.

First thing is first...adding more drama to a drama queen's posts is like trying to put out a fire with more fire.  You end up burning down a far larger area, and then get laughed at for being an idiot.  In short, if you see someone engaging in attention-seeking provocative bullshit on the forums, don't feed their narcissism by responding to them.

No, not even if you think you have the single most brutal comeback, witty retort or even just want someone to blast because you had a shitty day.  Trolling isn't about the action, its about the reaction, the dialectic.  Don't react, and there is no trolling, just an idiot shouting into the void.  Reacting is just aiding this person in shitting where you eat.  Yes, you're helping them, and its painfully obvious that they want a fight, they want the drama to escalate, they're more interested in ego-gratifying conflicts than having fun with us against the normals...and you are complicit in this every single time you reward that sort of behaviour with a response and in making this forum a slightly shittier and less interesting place.

You don't want the mods to intervene when it comes to trolls, and we shouldn't...but conversely, that means each and every one of you has to take far more responsibility when it comes to dealing shitheads.  I had to PM nearly every active member of this forum to get them to sign onto simply ignoring someone when they were trolling - the easiest and most basic level anti-trolling measure available to you on the internet, and something that should be a reflex reaction to some of the more notorious idiots on here of the last 2 years.  Some people I had to remind repeatedly, and that was especially annoying.  Think about more than just yourselves as well.  The posters make up this site, and this includes people who get sick of the drama and leave until it sorts itself out.  Some people aren't fighters (or dont want to be, not in their free time and at a place they should be relaxing and enjoying), and so when all they see is conflict, they take the sensible route and quit.  I'd much rather they didn't, and I suspect most of you do too.  Consider the impact on the whole forum when you decide to engage someone who doesn't give a shit about winning or losing, but just wants to fling shit around the place because their mommy didn't love them enough as a child.

Until you grasp that you too are not above the rules of the internet, and that what looked like an amazing put-down in your head only helps feed the drama on site, this place will continue to get trolled by amazingly easy to deal with people.  ECH decided he didn't want the sort of mods who intervene at the drop of a hat, and the vast majority of this site agrees...which means you all have to step up to the plate instead.  Otherwise, this site is not going to be a very fun place at all, and certainly not attract the sort of people who might be fun, good contributers or want to get one over on the cabbages....only ego-tripping dipshits looking for an easy fight.

Its up to you, as a poster, to not get drawn in.  So don't.
