Alright, the whole internet is talking about it, somebody had to start at thread about it.

You literally cannot script reality TV this good. This is an instance of real racial tension and a savage beating, caught on film. It spread like wildfire across the Internet.

disagree with the bolded part. if you haven't seen the interview with the black guy yet, definitely do so. his account of the story sheds quite a different light on what happened.

i'm not gonna argue for either of them, seems two tensed up old dudes got into a fight.

what i would like to see is not a rematch between them, but interview with both of them talking it out. i just wonder if the interviewer is skilled enough to not let that devolve into a shouting match.

what I find so fascinating about all of this is the role of the internet.

I mean, neither of these people were looking to become celebrities. Neither of them expected that getting on the bus that morning would lead to 2,000,000+ youtube hits. None of them expected their personalities to be the subject of forum discussions and flame wars and hundreds of video responses. The internet turned its eye on them, and they had no choice in the matter.

This is how it goes now. One false move and a million /b/tards will be commenting on every aspect of your life. Michael and Vietnam Tom were just one of the 3 billion strangers on this planet, and now you know more about them than you know about 99.99 percent of the world population. Why? Not because you met them or anything. But because something about their interaction was deeply evocative and somebody happened to be there to capture it.

first of all, Vietnam Tom is one whacked out motherfucker. And not really in the "cool" kind of way. Second of all, Michael seems like a pretty reasonable, normal guy whose very first words upon being interviewed were "I'd like to apologize to (list of entities) for the way I conducted myself that day." He also admits that he was a little drunk and takes responsibility for allowing his buzz to incite him to take the situation further than he otherwise would have. Vietnam Tom lies and says that Michael flashed a foot-long switchblade at him. They slow the original footage down and you can definitely hear that the whole thing was started by Vietnam Tom asking Michael "how much you gonna charge me for a spit-shine on my Stacy Adams?". Basically, racist crazy white guy got lucky and even though he picked on a black man who was willing to stand up for himself, white dude was HUGE and black dude is about the size of Gary Coleman. Also, Michael said in the interview that he knew he was gonna get his ass beat when he walked to the front of the bus but he couldn't, in good consicence, allow the racist insults to go unchallenged in front of a bus full of young black people.
