Honor in Humility

We can never see eye to eye if we never admit to ourselves that our visions contain blind spots.

We each can see pieces of truth.
Pieces we accumulate as we navigate our Paths, in our Sphere of Possbility.
As we pursue the honorable pursuit of living life to its fullest.

Where things get fucked up is when we take our pieces and hammer them together to form The Picture.
Not taking into consideration that our blind spots have missed pieces along the way.
Pieces that others may have been able to see, and picked up along their Path.

We know that our Paths intersect and merge in various locations.
It is at these meeting places where we can pick up additional navigational coordinates.
By simply asking to see the others’ pieces of truth.
To have the humility to recognize that a collective pursuit of progress requires partnerships.
And that we each will have different clues for the course.

Far too often, however…

…we ignore…

and so…we diverge from a useful unity tackling the unknown…

…and carry on to what certainly will be dead ends.

“I don’t know” is a statement of strength, not weakness.
It is an acknowledgement of needing more input.  The weakness would be ignoring other insights for further information.
We should always want to know more, about that which surrounds us.  And about where it is we are going.

There is Honor in Humility.  For in the end, it will help us on our way.

Okurtcido in English

FYI, Rev Cekemp has been busy making an English language version of the Brazilian Discordian blog, Orkutcido.

Follow the link.

Please check it out, as it will be a great way to build links with the apparently numerous Brazilian Discordians, without having to learn too much Portuguese.

Discordians, Dysnomians, Erisians, and others of much ilk…

Get up! (Get on up!)

KallistiCon 2008 is coming – June 20-22!

Every year this millennium, we’ve gotten together in the Bay Area in California. We’re not just rehashing gags from the Principia – we’re moving forward, practicing chaos in the world.

For the last seven years, we’ve eaten and drank together, we’ve made friends with strangers in traffic, we’ve had rituals and blessings, we’ve been weird in public, and we’ve been human with each other. We’ve found the freaks who thought they were the only ones, and taught them – and ourselves – what tribe is supposed to mean.

Some of you will say: “But Discordians are supposed to be disorganized.”

Didn’t you know that’s just a put-on?

Some of you will say we’re doing it wrong, and only you know the right way to follow Eris.

That’s OK. Just quit talking about it and start doing it.

Some will no doubt repeat the tired cliche: “We Discordians tend to stick apart.”

Of course we do, but sticking apart is more fun when we do it together.

Throw out your old memes. Greg and Kerry are gone, Bob Wilson is gone, Camden Benares and the other old-timers are gone. Let’s honor and respect them. Let’s learn from their lives and their teachings. But let’s stop trying to be them.

The Principia is your grandma’s Discordia. Being an inside joke on the net is your daddy’s. What’s yours? And who are you doing it with?

Clergy to the Freaks

It’s a strange, chaotic world out there. It’s incomprehensibly huge and also so tiny it’s like your own personal cell. It’s miraculously beautiful and suicidally ugly. It’s both claustrophobically overcrowded and desolately lonely.

There are a lot of people – in this case I’ll use that nebulous “us” – who use weirdness, humor, and insanity as a means of coping. Perhaps lunacy allows some to achieve a sort of homeostasis, an equilibrium with the ubiquitious dynamics and pressures of modern living.

Over at the PD Forums we had a debacle yesterday. One of our newer members, Daruko, had a sort of “internet breakdown” when confronted by some opposition. It was both funny and hard to watch. The guy in question is a 25-year old father of two, who is “in dire need of some sillyness in his life.”

Somebody asked Tim Leary what to do after they had Turned On. He said, “Find the others.” And then they show up at our door.

Wherefore all the Popes?

As some of you may know, one of the things the POEE (Paratheo-Anametamystikhood Of Eris Esoteric) came up with was the True and Holy Fact that every man, woman and child is a pope (“so please treat them right”). Some people wonder what’s up with that. Well, I’ll tell you what that means to me.* 1. It pisses off the Catholics (not that hard, but fun anyway).2. It causes mild confusion in cabbages that can’t get their head around the idea of multiple, non-Catholic popes.3. It is a fairly precise and concise slice of what it means to be Discordian.

Perhaps I should expand/expound on that third one. To wit: The Christian Catholic Path teaches that Jesus gave unto Peter the earthly access of heaven’s kingdom (Matt.16:18-19: “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld will not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”).

Stemming from this tradition, the Pope has become the singular conduit of God’s will on earth, having final say on moral, ethical, and spiritual matters. Their will in such matters is not to be denied.

Well, Discordians aren’t down with that. They are typically skeptical of any dogmatic authority (or, for that matter, any authority assumed rather than requested). To a Discordian, the self is the final arbiter of moral, ethical, and spiritual behavior. It would simply not do to have some old guy in a funny hat ordering me not to have fun, “just because”. I, Myself, am the key to Heaven, and the Gate; I am the Jailor; I am the Prisoner; and I am Free.

But you see, this applies to everyone. My papal edicts do not affect you, if you so choose, because you are the Pope, as well. Of course, you all know what happens when two popes disagree: SCHISM! And in that chasm awaits the One True Goddess, Eris.

And there’s nothing better than looking into the Eris’ Crack.

*It should be pointed out that, of course, I speak for myself, the One True Pope of the First Church of Last Exit Before Toll. Other popes can damn well speak for themselves, if they so choose.
