We were doing fun stuff.  A lot of writing, a couple of new projects, GASM's going strong...so the logical thing to do is Byzantine back room dealings and threats of public reprimands.  We'll get all the golden eggs out of that goose yet.

Fact is, as I expected, ECH was on the level about these emails.  I'm a little tired of wearing boiler plate on my back, to be perfectly honest.  I'm a little tired of drama fucking up every burst of creativity this place begins to enjoy, and I'm really tired of it all being for our own good.  I'm tired of the factionalization and the ridiculous dick-measuring contests.  I'm tired of hanging on through yet another monster pissing contest.  I'm just plain tired.

- i don't see a lot of out of control noob bashing,
- most longtime posters are within a reasonable quantity and quality in their noob bashing posts,
- sometimes the noob on noob stuff goes overboard (not a big deal just part of the learning curve)
- ech has every right to bash out of control bashing,
- i don't like him (ECH) feeling he needs to mention ownership/admin or threaten shutdown, he should be able to jump on things he doesn't like with out it..
- i tend to see mentioning owner/admin when making a point as being against the culture of freedom that makes pd great/creative
- pm'ing complaints to ECH is weak, if something is a problem bring it up or pm the person you have the problem with (re Cain behind the scenes discussions about the boards direction or mood (meta stuff) is not the same as complaining about it or planing administrative action, i expect you were doing the former)

I am kind of confused about why Roger got singled out in this thread, considering that he didn't start it and wasn't the heaviest JohNyx-basher in it.  :?

Problem:  That isn't how it was presented last night.  It was presented that multiple people had PMd ECH talking about how shitty the board is, and who is responsible for that.

To be fair, it's probably because I'm the one that responded to ECH's comments.

Thanks.  I'll look into the full Adobe version.

I've got money to burn, so ease of use and reliability are far more important than cost.

you might want to check out some other pieces of software perhaps, this is professional graphics design software (for making books and magazines), it is reliable, but "ease of use" isn't really the first thing that comes to mind when I think of InDesign. as in, you probably need to read a few tutorials before you get the hang of it. although if you got money to burn, there's perfectly good introductionary books for InDesign at nearly every computer book store.
btw I'm not saying that you couldn't figure it out, just that, it's not a program that allows one to quickly WOMP something together.

and there are most definitely tools out there that will in fact do just that, only that, and in an easy to use manner (and don't cost $699). except I don't know what they are. but if you tell me what your needs / goals / etc are, I could try to help find something.

+1 vote for the status quo. I think we'll see a lot more activist material once there are more crafted messages to be active about. There's so much flux right now, when I think of "activist" I think of teabaggers and G20 protesters, and while they are loud they are _not_ getting their message much further than their own bases. The old ways no longer work, and we're in the middle of discovering new ones - e.g. trolling and things like the "Conservative Bible Translation Project" show the ways in which we're honing the skills required to craft messages in this new medium.

With regards constructive criticism and bashing of newbies, I received quite a few supportive PMs during my flaming episodes and those made the difference between me leaving and trying again. So that is an option, or better still.. inject the constructive criticism directly into the thread. Personally, I'm not a fan of the "board nanny" rebuttal, but then that persists only as long as it successfully intimidates other voices who don't want to be flamed themselves.

Oh, OK. I guess that makes sense.

Well then don't do stuff that helps precipitate the stuff you don't like. If some n00b comes crashing in acting like a polyp found in Mal-2's rectum... don't engage him. Either he will take over the board with Pineal screaming and destroy PD.com forever, or he'll get over it, or someone else will hit him with the boiler plate that once hung off of you.

If you're tired of the game, play a different game.

If you like the game, tell ECH and Cain (and me and everyone else) to STFU, because you like what you're doing.

That's precisely what I'm going to be doing in the future, as state above.  Let the next IANAR, Cowass, Bhode, etc, be someone else's problem.  Unless they do something modworthy, I no longer give a fuck what they do, or where.

Hell, I've already PMd an apology to JohNyx, and told him to carry on.  In restrospect, I could have worded it better.

Thanks.  I just want the capability to create and edit PDF files.

PDF files are more of a "write only" thing, usually you create your working copy in some other format, and then export (or "print") the final version to a PDF.

you can, in theory, edit PDF files (using a tool called Adobe Distiller, afaik), but that's not the most practical way of creating them. (It is incredibly useful however, to remove black bars from de-classified gvmt documents, if they were stupid enough to place a black rectangle over the letters without deleting the text itself)

I suggest seeing how far you get with MS Word and Cram's suggestion (forgot the name, it's a few pages back). Even though MS Word can be a stubborn bitch to get to do exactly what you want, it is rather intuitive, I guess.
