I'm going to approach one of my possible recruits tomorrow about participating in some Mindfuckery. So fingers crossed.

I'm also printing out Pope Cards right now. And I've got some poster ideas I'm going to do later this week.

Anyone have any ideas on how I should approach Operation MindFuck in regards to a small redneck town?

Carefully.

But you shouldn't actually have much difficulty.  The problem with small towns is that they're BORING, which is why there's more crime per capita than you have in a large city.

If you tailor your propaganda for the personality of your town, you shouldn't have much trouble.  If you tell me more about the town, I could maybe give you some hints.

Pennsylvania redneck town, which means lots of fishing and hunting. The town is pretty Republican dominated, and Obama is almost universally hated, but opinions on the Tea Party are relatively mixed. Despite this, at least among the town's youth, political apathy is the rule rather than the exception. Rather diverse religiously, at least within the Christian spectrum.

Racism is based around hatred of Latinos (which has been exacerbated by the recent arrival of migrant workers) , with the remainder hovering vaguely between anti-Islamic and anti-Semitic ideas. Musically, things are mostly dominated by country, which among teens is rivaled by screamo and rap.

The town is very bitter, having been hit by the Repression a couple years before the rest of the country, thanks to Adelphia. Their is a lot of resentment against Welfare and people on Welfare (called Welfare Rats). Among kids this is frighteningly evident. This area (and this town in particular) has the highest numbers of teenage pregnancy and STDs in the state.

Most kids rebel by throwing themselves into binge drinking and hard drugs. Flirting is built upon the idea that if a guy insults and demeans you, then he really cares for you. There is a high tendency for atheism among teens, which is more a result of general hopelessness than a conscious decision that there is no god.

That's about the gist of it. I could go on, but this is the main idea of the place.

EDIT: Split up the thing so that its not just two big blocks of text.

I'm thinking a "THEY DID THIS TO YOU" posterfest.

Have fun with who THEY are.  Spread the blame around a bit.

Hmm. I like that. There are a fair number of people I could throw blame at. The local government, Adelphia, the local School system, etc.

I was also thinking of something playing off the kid's nihilism and wallowing in the town's filth. This town is FILLED with misplaced and/or buried rage and hopelessness.

Exactly! Ya, I've got some ideas. Have various groups pointing fingers at each other. The American Legion blaming the School, the School blaming parents, the parents blaming local government, and around and around we go.

The American Legion deserves everything you throw at them.  If there was ever an example of everything that went wrong with America, it's them.

Primary target acquired. Time to acquaint myself with the local American Legion. We've also recently had a new Sheetz move into town, even though we already have one. Of course this one is bigger, so that's okay. They bulldozed a hotel that had been in almost since the town's founding to make room for it, while the old Sheetz is going to be closed and left to rot.

Secondary Target acquired.

What's a Sheetz?

QuoteWhat's a Sheetz?

Sheetz is a East Coast fast food/general store chain which has been spreading like the love child of a wildfire and cancer through Appalachia. It's boosted the local economy, but also taken advantage of this to push the local government around.

I stopped at a Sheetz in Ohio when I went to Erie this summer. It was rather forgettable.

So, I have one full convert and two maybes now. We put up a couple posters, but haven't done anything truly worthy of mention yet.

Still have to find the people. I guess I just gotta talk to everyone I see until I can smell TEH SHITHATE in them.

That's the standard.  Other things can be negotiated.

So, my recruitment was a success, and this weekend I'm going to start working on posters. Hell yes!

And I've been seeding the school with pope cards. Slipping them into lockers, purses, pockets, you name it. Haven't really been noticed much, but I'm building up speed. They'll be finding these things all year long.

The Wizard

Bump. Just finished my first couple posters. Will get with my recruit and put them up around town sometime this week.
