Still doesn't answer why everyone hates atheists so much

Because they militantly profess a lack of belief in something that doesn't exist.

Not all of em.
In fact, I don't think I've ever mentioned it before now. Maybe once but I don't remember.

Why are some Christians so keen on the End Times? Does anyone know if there's an actual psychological profile behind it? I know being any sort of Protestant other than a Lutheran or a Unitarian automatically makes you a little more crazy than others by default, but what's going on here?

Humanity has always dealt with its insignificance by casting itself as the grand cosmic centerpiece, religiously or otherwise.  Hell; in The Grand Design, Stephen Hawking (not a big theist, you may know) remarks that we are in some ways the "lords of creation".

If Carl Sagan was on everyone's mind they wouldn't care.

We thought we were the only tribe.  Then we found other tribes.
We thought we were the only race.  We found other races.
We thought our world was the center of creation.  We discovered heliocentrism.
We thought our system was the only one.  We found exoplanets orbiting stars.  We found other galaxies.
Now we theorize the existence of other universes with different parameters in M-Theory.
All this we have found, all at the expense of our place of pride as the focal point of all reality.

Yet we persist in believing in omnipotent personal benefactors.

We are exactly that stupid.

I reeeeally hope they come through here, with their RV caravans. We have two super crazy churches here and I bet they'd come out in force to join them, which would be funny. One of them broke away from the other because they were 'too liberal' and I have no doubt fighting would break out.
"I dispose of obsolete meat machines.  Not because I hate them (I do) and not because they deserve it (they do), but because they are in the way and those older ones don't meet emissions codes.  They emit too much.  You don't like them and I don't like them, so spare me the hysteria."

- So the New World Order does not actually exist?
- Oh it exists, and how!
Ask the slaves whose labour built the White House;
Ask the slaves of today tied down to sweatshops and brothels to escape hunger;
Ask most women, second class citizens, in a pervasive rape culture;
Ask the non-human creatures who inhabit the planet:
whales, bears, frogs, tuna, bees, slaughtered farm animals;
Ask the natives of the Americas and Australia on whose land
you live today, on whose graves your factories, farms and neighbourhoods stand;
ask any of them this, ask them if the New World Order is true;
they'll tell you plainly: the New World Order... is you!
