I'm pretty sure that since the new Kirk movie altered the timeline so far back that all of the things that happened in the original series are wiped clean and did not actually happen.

Yes, she was. But lets not beat around the bush. She was there for eye candy only. When Admiral Tomalak is on screen and has shifty eyes, you don't need Troi to vaguely read his mind and tell Picard that he's "hiding something."
