Almost as if east Asian countries have experience of respiratory coronaviruses, and it's easier to shut down the air routes you have a state monopoly on.

(I don't think it's a particularly wild notion that they put the safety of China before the safety of everywhere else, but that hardly singles them out.)

Just where the hell have you been?

That's not a bad hypothesis, but there's another possibility.

2 million years of primate survival have taught us to emulate the successful.  When we had to worry about leopards and Those Other Bastards Over There hogging up all the game, that was a really good strategy.  In a high tech society, it's not a particularly successful.

However, the fact is that we existed for hundreds of thousands of years in the first case, and maybe a hundred years in the second case.

Now, marketing nerds understand this, so your views are presented to you by one of three types:

Athletic young men.
Distinguished older men.
Hot young blondes.

They aren't talking to the front of your brain, they're talking more towards the back, because the great majority of people will listen to and absorb what they have to say, because they are perceived as being the winners of the tribe by the part of your brain that spends all its time looking for leopards (and, of course, Those Other Bastards Over There).

Turn on the TV and hit a "news" channel, just for one example, and watch it with the sound off.  You don't know what they're saying, but at least part of you wants to trust them anyway.

Won't SOMEBODY think of the bottom line?

Newsfeed? Or a Disco variant, like:

"PD.com: Someone had to think of the bottom line."

Or even simpler:

"PD.com: We thought of the bottom line."

HIMEOBS:  YOU CANNOT LINE YOUR BOTTOM ENOUGH.

We're averaging 760,000 new cases a day, go us!

I feel that it is worth mentioning that LMNO never told us who the fuck pays physicists.

After doing a bit of digging, turns out it's... Philosophy Departments.

Huh.  Go figure.

I knew it.  Those bastards.  Plato's Cave, indeed.  Imagine you're in a ruin, and the only thing you can see are the shadows burned into the walls, so all you know is THIS IS WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU FUCK WITH US and you can never really be free of this delusion because it's real and also because there are always more nukes and at some level you know that FUCKING WITH US ISN'T ACTUALLY NECESSARY.

I needed this sort of motivation today.

Hey Cain, I need your "JEWS LIVE UNDER MY BED" rant, if you have it saved.

Yesterdays Star Trek Discovery (S4E6) was the absolute worst episode ever made, from any series ever.

I say this as a Discovery fan.

It ruined my life.

Who wants a cookie? Oh you don't oh I see.

Ask them a couple of other questions to get the "no"s started.  Then ask about the cookie.

Yeah, it's a whole lot of fun.

For me, the favorite age is 4-8.  They're old enough to ask questions, and young enough to want to ask the questions.

I'm looking forward to this, we are at the yes/no stage (everything is no)

There's a cure for that.

By the way, has anyone heard from Altered/Nullified?

I'm beginning to worry a bit.

You should know better than that. Iím like bedbugs: what doesnít kill me turns me into a biblical plague.

Nah, but really, Iím actually doing mostly okay. Iím doing the need-work-need-housing dance again, but I have a wonderful lady Iím seeing later today so it isÖ really hard to care about my personal trouble.

Itís Bloodborne and Glenmorangie 10 yr tonight. Itís the second date.

At some point the story will need telling, because we met because A: I met Discordians visiting Chicago, B: I realized I liked not being a hermit, and C: I thought she was a scumfuck Nazi infiltrator.

I havenít been posting because Iím tired and old. Iím using diclofenac gel on my knees, really. I keep intending to post and clean forgetting, or else realizing that I have no valuable contributions.

ďIím homeless on Jan 1st again, but I got a date coming upĒ is like a minced oath minus the creative writing part, and now that Iím tethered to Chicago (I would die for this woman, I am goddamn well staying in transit range) what can anyone even do to save me anyway?

Sorry for the worry.

I'm just glad you're alive to check in.

Sorry I meant I am glad he got creamed and not someone else, no sympathy for him

Yes, it scored low on body count, but got full marks for grotesqueness.
