Jenn and TGG and I all have covid.

I was more angry I was sick than I was sick, but the chills and aches the first night were hell on wheels. Tylenol was the only thing that worked.

For us, the only thing that stops the horrible chills is theraflu (which may also be Tylenol).  Nothing stops the all over sunburn effect, or the total lack of energy.  There's an antiviral that works on this paxlovid or some shit, we're getting that today.

Ah fuck that's lame. My household narrowly avoided it thru 2022. Get well soon! (& I hope its not BAD for anyone).

We've had our shots (not all of them mind you, just the first 3), so we're all breathing without assistance.

It's been a hellish decade and change. I'm glad you've apparently done better than I have.

I write queer hate-poems and stare bitterly at the wreckage-strewn future I have to look forward to. There's not many folks around these parts lately, but old hands still drop in from time to time. There's all the room in the world here now, if you want it.

I've had ups as well as downs, that's for sure.

Those poems sound awesome. Have you got any you'd recommend to start?

I think I'll at least try and stick around again. Some of my best memories are here. It'd be nice to make new ones.

It's good to see you back.  Believe it or not, traffic is picking up again, by which I mean "it exists".

Apologies if I've missed it but 2022 has really been a banner year for absolutely batshit fucking insane takes from Plague Island's residents. I couldn't immediately see anything cataloguing it and I'm sure 2023 will be even more normal but I thought I'd start with sharing some of my personal favourites.

1) Tala the Alien.



Indisputably my personal icon for 2022, Tala the Alien is a genderless creature designed by a small library in Hitchen (Population: 36k) to help teach kids that gender doesn't matter when it comes to reading - reading is something everyone can enjoy!

Obviously the fact that this alien being has no gender provoked a frothing rage from Plague Island's most Normal residents culimating in noted weirdo Maya Forstater screeching that she NEEDED TO KNOW THE GENITALS OF THE CARTOON ALIEN and hundreds of freaks speculating about how the cute alien fucks. Just a wonderful time for everyone.

Oh, and the person who made the alien received a barrage of death threats and a bomb threat. Because of course they did.

You guys are turning into us.

A small mercy for Cain's worry of Twitter being the Radio Rwanda of the trans genocide: Musk banned posting out to any major social media platform today (NO FACEBOOK! NO INSTAGRAM!) and many of the smaller Twitter-replacements (with Truth Social singled out even, the man is divorced from fucking Donald) -- including using things like Linktrees.

The platform probably dies an ignominious death before winter's end. And if Musk isn't vigorously ejected from the companies with government contracts, it'll be a Christmas miracle -- no one is putting anything behind a man who violates anti-trust law on a fucking social media site.

Holy shit.  That man is a fucking IDIOT.

He's pissed off the half of the party that still have holiday homes in reality. Sunak, who is one of those, noticeably banished him to the back benches, because the man's not only malevonent he's useless, even by current Tory party standards. Putting him in power would be even worse than Truss.

Plus, remember, this was an MP stitch-up this time around, and not the party membership. The party membership are insane, which is why they wanted Truss. The MPs actually have to worry about re-election, which is why they rallied around the more moderate and competent candidate, relatively speaking, while everyone else stood down. The candidate they can actually potentially not get wiped out in a future election with, unlike Truss or Rees-Mogg. Sunak did have glowing profiles written about him for his Covid budget measures, after all.

From what I've seen so far, he's not a complete shitshow.

Sidebar, I got curious and looked into it. Apparently DEFCON readiness levels aren't supposed to be reported on? Who knew?

No, really. I'm not even being sarcastic, I sincerely had the idea that DEFCON readiness was a wartime public communications tool. "This number determines the amount of Good in your immediate future, if it gets too low you can expect to assume the position forthwith." It's news to me that it is generally not known what the level at any given time is unless there's a leak or a personal decision to announce it.

It's not secret, but it is a military tool that nobody in the general public really understands.  And they learned from the terrorist color-coding thing that telling people shit only causes problems and mockery.

The factions are, of course, all of THEM against ME, because they know I have access to the world's most questionable sushi, and they want it.  They send the now-unemployed Antignano Brothers around to harass me and try to steal it, but I am much too clever and ate it, even the stuff that hadn't gone past the use-by date that Quiktrip stamped on the plastic wrap.

There's plenty of good traps/puzzles in the first 2/3 hours or so that could be nicely repurposed. I'm not sure how easy it is to make your own scratchcard but that one especially would be a fucker.
