Don't get me wrong, I greatly appreciate the fact that you're at least putting effort into sincerely arguing your points. It's an argument I've enjoyed having. It's just that your points are wrong and your reasons for thinking they're right are stupid.

I agree with the initial post, although by the time I got to the third page I forgot what it was. Post successfully murdered. I would like to add that even though I do agree with you, I don't think you're an idiot to post something I agree with. Of course he's preaching to the choir; you don't go to parenting forums to talk about abortions.

Anyway, I think the power struggle really boils down to the fact that there are more people with guns in the government. I say do what you want as long as you are brave enough to stand up to the consequences. So the government is a huge corporation that can have you killed on a whim... you going to let that stop you?!

Or Kill Me / Re: Are you addicted to electricity?

I do recall the black-out of the midwest/east coast. I was in Michigan at the time. It was a lot of fun, but that could be attributed to the fact that we assumed it would be temporary. Also, I once read in a book, that a long, long, long time ago, people actually lived without electricity. So, I figure we probably could too. It failed to mention what they used to power thier computers though.

I never liked Green Day. I also never liked pop bands labeling themselves punk to try to sell more records. That is probably more the marketing division's fault though. I can't grasp the concept of why people would claim to listen to a genre of music just for the label.

This is probably also why people compare scars or want to convince everybody that they had worse parents than you. Maybe we all just want a pity hug.

A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine. -Thomas Jefferson

Every generation needs a new revolution. -Thomas Jefferson

I'm not entirely sure if these apply to the conversation 100%, but T-Jeff was the man!

There is a difference between those who are trapped in the cage and those who choose to remain there. Even though both are in the same situation only one knows what it is.

This should obviously be a Venn diagram. Do not underestimate the power of overlapping circles!!

Quote from: ShoobyDB on April 22, 2008, 05:44:24 AMOk, I was probably innacurate in some things, but I think you get the point if you don't get too literal. Of course getting smashed with a barstool will hurt; it would hurt whether you thought it would or if you thought it wouldn't or if you had no idea either way. I think you'd find that out for yourself. Now, whether or not the earth is flat, you going to take somebody elses word for it?

ever been to the ocean? you can see ships sailing "below" the horizon.

Exactly, you can see for your own eyes the truth, yet, the majority at one time believed something else. Some people still think the Earth is flat. But, also, can't something sitting on a flat object appear below the horizon? Like looking at a table from an angle... What were we talking about again?

Flashback. So you can show how the incedent maybe changed the main character. Ah... dynamic.

I must admit I am not old enough to have seen the original Flying Circus, but only know the joke from the DVD commercial..  :p

Agreed. I read the first two books and then saw the movie while reading the third. Although, if you watch the movie first, then the story line gets better when you read the book instead of the movie just being dissapointing.

I highly recommend. The movie doesn't really do the book any justice, but they never do. It has a lot of stuff in it that you can take for more than just fiction. I'd like to tell you more, but I don't want to ruin it.

I just finished the His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman.
I am currently (slowly) reading Ulysses by James Joyce and Gargantua and Pantagruel by François Rabelais.

1) The abuse/argument line is from Monty Python.
2) I did not call you out. I did not know what you do (I still don't). You chose to be offended.
3) I haven't seen any real facts in this entire thread, website, or internet. Good luck on that.
4) We've been going in circles far too long now. This is just something I do between smoke breaks.
5) I agree that making an effort is better than doing nothing, regardless of the amount of change. Anything worth having is worth working for.
6) I would never tell you that you are wrong. If what you do works for you, then it doesn't matter what me, or anybody, says bad about it. I understand I can be completely wrong, but what's the point in being right or wrong?

This is abuse! I came here for an argument!
I'm going to stray off topic for a second. If I have an opinion that differs from yours, its only because I feel that way, not because I'm trying to offend you. So maybe a conversation is possible now? Not just mud-slinging like politicians?

Anywho, I agree that different methods yield results. The more active you are, the more effective it will be. I think public awareness is good, but it seems the reason the public is not aware of certain issues is because they don't care. Its probably really hard to present all the facts of an argument in certain situations, and most people don't want to read a pamphlet or flyer while they are out doing errands. What would be the best way to get a point accross and actually make people think about it?
