No, we're not mercenaries. We just carry weapons and kill things for the joy of the experience.

Apple Talk / Re: Open Bar: Curbside Pickup Only

I find it very refreshing that the world is finally starting to make sense again.

Tariffs on islands full of penguins, and desultory shootings in the street by SS-wannabees that don't even have proper uniforms, I can't work with.

But starting a war in the middle-east is simple to understand.  The penguins do not publicize their third-quarter results, but anyone can read about the Dardanelles campaign, and see how it went.  Now all the boats are stuck, markets and the price of oil are fluctuating wildly, and the goats are at last flying home to roost.

The feedback loop of causality has closed once more, and it's just so damn fun to see actions having consequences that would have been immediately obvious to anyone who read the least bit of history.

The war in Iran will still be on in November.

I accept in advance any claims that this is a gross underestimate.

Mouse #126 bleeds out.  At -20 C, the blood freezes almost instantly, preserving the colour.  It leaves a bright red stain on the concrete.

The mice of winter have long, thick fur.  This one has frozen solid, and snaps in two as I work it free from the trap.  I try not to look at the remains.  I toss the pieces into the back alley, an offering to the neighbourhood corvids...or whatever else might happen along.

Fixed that for you

That's general to the point of being useless.  Checking all beliefs is a waste of mental resources.  I use this specific mental tripwire to catch myself when people say things I agree with.

Quote from: chaotic neutral observer on February 19, 2026, 09:10:46 PMAn RFP for a Made-in-Canada drone communications system has crossed my desk, and although there's no NDA, it's obviously intended as a proof-of-concept for military use.  Somebody in the chain of procurement has been spooked by something.

Movement away from the American sphere is in progress everywhere, both overt and otherwise.  How tangled up we still are when the Anschluss commences, remains to be seen.

I don't yet believe an Anschluss is inevitable, but I'm a hopelessly naive optimist.

An Anschluss implies at least the appearance of a referendum.  That's not going to happen.
I suppose not, although there is a small and loud contingent of Albertans that want that referendum.

QuoteAlso, and trust me on this, you can't build weapons fast enough.

But it is also worth mentioning that frontage equations require 81 infantry divisions to MINIMALLY garrison Canada.  We have 12.

In an invasion of Canada, I expect the US would very quickly take the critical centers (Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, etc.), and then be free to bomb the rest of the population relatively unimpeded.  Ukraine has a lot of difficulty with air defense; our problem would be worse.

Any attempt at a large-scale ground occupation, however, would make Vietnam look like a garden party.

Realistically, though, a war between Canada and the US would end with revolution or collapse internal to the US, not because of anything Canada could do.

Allow me to suggest moving faster than that.

Since this pinealist shithead has declared itself an apologist for child abuse, I recommend it be banned immediately.

I keep recalling that quote-of-a-quote, as it continues to prove itself in fresh new ways.

Hilarious!

Especially the "coming soon" part, and how there were no comics.

Why would you want to spread Discordianism?

QuoteFor example, I need to make the authorities think I'm genuinely an idiot
Just act normally, they'll get the idea.

QuoteOtherwise, I might be secretly executed by agents.
Doesn't sound like it's worth it.  Not a lot of ROI in getting secretly executed, you can't even cash in your own life insurance policy.

Not sure how they're going to blame the destruction of the east wing on Obama, but, whatev.  It's a minor incident in the context of what is happening to the population at large.

Pity about the historical architecture though.

Quote from: Doktor Howl on October 17, 2025, 12:30:42 AMMy Intrusive Thoughts:  "MAKE THEM FLASH AT 10 HERTZ!"

Once, as a dumb schoolkid, I read somewhere that humans were sensitive to flashing lights at certain frequencies, so I programmed my Apple IIgs to flash pink at 13 Hz.

It was nausea-inducing, bloody awesome, and I didn't do it again.

Agreed.  They--whoever "they" are--are doing it on purpose.

QuoteThere's nothing chaotic about it, and Trump doesn't have to do anything, just relax and do everything his advisers tell him to
At the risk of arguing semantics, I'd say that "keeping people reeling" is chaos.  I also think Trump's unpredictability on tariffs, foreign policy, etc. is mostly his own doing, and that his advisers are largely yes-men.

But if we look more at the domestic affairs side, I might agree with you.  Stephen Miller and Kristi Noem have their agenda, and in that context, one could argue that Trump is less a chaos engine, and more a useful idiot.
