News:

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

Goddammit.

Well, I'm going to have to investigate this, if only to keep up with the fucking conspiracy theorists.

And also, BATS ARE NOT FUCKING BIRDS. For Chrisssake, the former are Synapsida, the latter Sauropsida, the two groups separated by over three hundred million years.

Fucking vertebrates and their shitty constitutions.

Please do let us know what you come up with... I feel like any conclusions/ideas you emerge with is going to be more credible than anything I read in the papers.

An interesting but unconclusive observation.

Fucking Magnetospheres, how do they work?

Where are these pics from?

On the magnet thing, is there any truth to the idea that birds can sense magnetic north?

*starts checking if the dead birds and fish are migratory*

If my public high school  Biology education and memory are correct then yes.
What is going on right now might be a shifting of the magnetic poles, that means a whole bunch of birds and fish derping themselves to death because they think down is up.

God, I hope people can derp themselves to death too.

We can only hope, Nigel. We can only hope.

I was under the impression that people derp themselves to death on a pretty regular basis. I mean just look at the Darwin awards.

Glittersnatch would be a rather unfortunate condition, if a halfway decent troll name.

I demand 100,000 disoriented Wal-Mart shoppers wandering the aisles until they die of exhaustion. I will settle for nothing less.

Fuck, dude, magnetosphere is serious business. We're all gonna fry! :tinfoilhat:

Wait, tin foil would be bad in this case, or at best ineffective, right?

This is a good thing. We'll soon be rid of the Born Agains, and we can move along with the Satanic takeover.

I for one cant wait to go raiding all the empty churches for electronics, the local Lutheran church here has a freaking NICE sound system.

Lutherans don't believe in the Rapture. They're like Catholics, only with less confession, more pot lucks and Garrison Keillor.

Well, 11/12 birds deserved it anyway.

Is there any actual evidence linking the case in Arkansas with any others?

My internet is playing up right now, so I'm not opening links, but unless the birds are dying in the same rather mysterious way the ones in Arkansas did (internal organ damage, no obvious external source for damage) then this is just the Law of Fives at it's paranoid best.

AFK

Pretty much.  Also, with the holidays just ending, and the changing of the guard politically, it's been a rather slow news cycle.  This bird and fish dying stuff fills the holes nicely and gives everyone something to get all lathered up about.

The Louisiana incident happened the same way a short distance and a couple of days away.

LMNO

Wait, I got it.

In some weird quantum-universe glitch, "Angry Birds" actually happens, and what you're seeing is the dump off point for all the birds that were hurled at stone castles.

Whatever

Yeah, it looks like (so far) that all of the birds in the various places have died in the same manner.

Did anyone see the report from the biologist (from Cornell? I think) that theorized that these birds were in their tree and storm winds sucked them up, chilled and basically froze them and they fell to the ground as a result of that?

I caught bits of that when the kids and I were looking everything up and I can't find it now.  After all of the tornado activity we had on New Years day, I can almost see that as being a possibility.  Almost....
