"‘Aliens,’ or a foreign power? Pentagon UFO chief says someone is in our backyard"

As per the article:

"This week, the director of the U.S. government’s UFO analysis office stated that there is “evidence” of concerning unidentified flying object activity “in our backyard.” According to physicist Seán Kirkpatrick, who heads the congressionally-mandated All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, this alarming UFO activity can be attributed to one of two extraordinary sources: either a foreign power or “aliens.”

To be sure, the ramifications of either would be significant. But Kirkpatrick’s comments, which come as he is about to retire after a 27-year defense and intelligence-focused career, are more intriguing because he also says that “none” of the hundreds of military UFO reports analyzed by his office recently “have been positively attributed to foreign activities.”"

And, further along in the article:

"Kirkpatrick’s “aliens” comment fits a broader pattern. Earlier this year, Kirkpatrick raised eyebrows when he co-authored a draft scientific paper with Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb hypothesizing that extraterrestrial “parent craft” could release “many small probes” to explore Earth-like planets.

With the best-known contemporary UFO encounters occurring over the ocean, Kirkpatrick and Loeb’s suggestion that such “extraterrestrial technological probes” “would necessarily be looking for water” to refuel is noteworthy.

More importantly, Kirkpatrick stated in a recent presentation that U.S. government sensors and servicemembers are observing “metallic orbs” that are “making very interesting apparent maneuvers” “all over the world.”"

Somehow, I suspect this article isn't going to do much to reduce the UFO High Weirdness Factor.

I can't help but wonder, what are the odds Rob Reiner will reveal that it was really Harold Canvera from Chicago?

Techmology and Scientism / What did Earth Look Like Millions of Years Ago?

If you've ever wondered what our Earth looked like up to 470 million years ago, this interactive display will give you a pretty good idea.

This display allows you to input from a given selection of times, and a given selection of cities around the world. Places in the USA go all the way back to 470 million years ago. However, places in other parts of the world may not. For instance, when I entered Kalamata, Greece for the longest time span, the following message appeared:

Could not resolve location for
"Kalamata, Peloponnese, GR"

Its tectonic plate doesn't track that far
into the past - try switching to a more
recent year!

I was, however, able to go back as far as 600 million years ago for Kalamata.

There are also a few other options available on the display that you may find to be of interest. And, if you go back one web page, you'll find that this display is actually part of The Dinosaur Database.

"Old EV Batteries Get a Second Life Storing Solar Energy"

"We're at a point where we really can scale this."

As per the article:

"To make renewable energy from intermittent sources like solar and wind available when it is most needed, it’s becoming more common to use batteries to store the power as it’s generated and transmit it later. But one thing about the Cuyama facility, which began operations this week, is less common: The batteries sending energy to the grid once powered electric vehicles."

And, further along in the article:

"The facilities are meant to prove the feasibility of giving EV batteries a second life as stationary storage before they are recycled. Doing so could increase the sustainability of the technology’s supply chain and reduce the need to mine critical minerals, while providing a cheaper way of building out grid-scale storage.

“This is what’s needed at massive scale,” said Freeman Hall, CEO of the Los Angeles-based large-scale storage system company."

This sounds like a potential win-win reuse of old tech hardware to me.

Things are slowly getting better.

I am continuing to wrestle with my insurance to get towards a point where I can cut down the cost of my treatment considerably. It has been an agonisingly slow process and I'm still nowhere near the end of it, but I do now have the bit of paper that says I am Officially Trans.

Work continues to be very difficult but it has been for years at this point. It is also necessary that I stick with it until the insurance has sorted everything at a bare minimum. Nowhere else offers this level of coverage in the UK, so I'm locked in with this company for the foreseeable. Which is fine. I've started taking steps to make myself more secure here, and if this is what I wind up doing for the next 5 years or so as I milk this policy for everything it is worth ... I can live with that.

It helps that work have also given us a generous two year pay deal and an extra £500 to cover Christmas. Financially, things should ease up for me a lot next year, especially if the insurance works out.

Holiday season is going to be a nuisance. Housemate's partner is coming to stay from the 5th Dec - 5th Jan and we do not have the room to comfortably sustain that. They are also really pushing hard on the 'I want to socialise and do tons of things all the time' angle. Which would be fine under normal circumstances. But I am very tired, I mostly want to hermit and get through the season. I may have to try and explain this diplomatically.

I haven't made any progress on writing or reading projects. But I am still here. I have a plan. I'm going to stick to it. Things will get better.

Here's another practical gift for the adult MAGAts on your list:

It's the new iSuck Vacuum Cleaner! And, of course, like its developer, it really does suck! And, after receiving it, the grateful MAGAts on you list will swear that such a boast was not mere advertising puffery. After all, if a MAGAt won't trust a claim by TFG, who will they trust?

"Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows sued by book publisher for breach of contract"

As per the article:

"Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows is being sued by his publisher for contradicting his book’s claim about the the 2020 election.

All Seasons Press alleges that sworn testimony by Meadows undermined “The Chief’s Chief,” in which he wrote that the election was stolen from former President Donald Trump.

In a breach of contract lawsuit filed Friday in Florida, All Seasons cited media reports from last month alleging that Meadows knew Trump had lost to Democrat Joe Biden.

“Meadows’ reported statements to the Special Prosecutor and/or his staff and his reported grand jury testimony squarely contradict the statements” in “The Chief’s Chief,” according to the lawsuit, filed in Sarasota, Florida. A central theme of Meadows’ book is that “President Trump was the true winner of the 2020 Presidential Election and that election was ‘stolen’ and ‘rigged’ with the help from ‘allies in the liberal media,’” the court papers read in part."

So, opportunity knocked AND karma hunted him down.
