so, they dismiss longsuffering as a virtue, or are they just too cowardly to face it?

What do you think? "Be a pussy!" wouldn't make a great advertising slogan.

In general, they reject the idea that a life of suffering is somehow a good or virtuous thing (something which is pretty deeply ingrained into the Judeo-Christian mindset). But neither is it about running away from suffering or seeking pleasure at every opportunity, since that would just be hedonism (something which is also generally believed to lead to more suffering in the long run).

It's more like a different approach to the suffering that life offers.

Those unattainable goals are what make us human.

Yes, but they also make us suffer. And striving to be human could also be seen as an attachment that leads to more suffering as well. It's all about priorities.

That being said, there's a reason I don't consider myself Buddhist. Can't get entirely behind the ideals of it myself. I like getting the things I want out of life, even if it means suffering when I can't have them.

If you're afraid of a bit of suffering, you'll never get that cheeseburger, Cainad.

Yeah. As I said, I like the Good Things too much to want to stop playing the game altogether.

Glittersnatch would be a rather unfortunate condition, if a halfway decent troll name.

Kinda kool, huh?

It honestly made me smile to be a small part of a Katrina reconnection story. I'm humbled and honored..I def. gained more from this task than y'all did.

Thank you for that.

I'm so jealous if you've met him in person.  SO VERY JEALOUS!

I haven't updated in a few days, so here we are:

Tuesday - Work was less harsh than monday, though using the spray cleaner thing we have for extended periods of time always fucks me up. Anyway, after spending a good bit of time spraying the yard (mostly) clean of the thick layer of mud and filth it had accrued, and then spraying down one of the tipper trucks, my hands and back were flagging. It is surely therefore forgivible that I knocked one of the directors flat on his ass with the sprayer when I hit him in the middle of his chest. Right? It's not like I did it on purpose. After work, I went to the D&D game Pixie and I go to. Fortunately, I was able to get away with not doing much during the game cause we're going through a rather politics heavy bit of roleplay, rather than fightin' action, and m,y character is very much a stupid brutish tank - not political at all. This is the first time I REALLY wanted a coffee so bad that I could actually taste it in my mouth. I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow when I got home, and I didn't even get Pixies "I got home safe!" text message till the next morning.

Wednesday - Work made me feel unusually serene today. I don't know what happened, but I didn't feel like eating anyones faces clean off. I dunno man, it was almost spiritual. But then I felt absolutely beat up when I got home and fell asleep ridiculously early, which was just as well because......

Thursday - Has been a BITCH of a day. I got up at 4:15 to get scrubbed up and ready to go for a day on the crane lorry with Terry-The-Ex-Navy-Deserter. Our main job was at Portsmouth Naval Docks.

On the whole this day was a series of the crane lorry equivilent of those little picture puzzle games where you slide squares around and there's only one empty space? Mentally and physically exhausting, particularly combined with the added 1.5 hour total cycling time on top of the work.

I am now home, somewhat later than normal. And nothing makes more sense than sitting down with a brew and bitching about work. I NEED COFFEE DAMN IT.  :argh!:
